Traditional Portuguese Catapalana Recipe
This dish is named after the clamshell-shaped copper pot (catapalana) used to cook it, but you can also make it in a large lidded pan or Dutch oven.
Ingredients (Serves 4)
- 500g mixed seafood (clams, mussels, shrimp, squid, firm white fish)
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 red bell pepper, sliced
- 1 ripe tomato, diced
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 tsp sweet paprika
- ½ tsp chili flakes (optional, for heat)
- 100ml dry white wine
- 100ml fish or seafood stock
- Handful of fresh cilantro or parsley, chopped
- Salt & black pepper to taste
- Lemon wedges (for serving)
- Cooked rice or crusty bread (to serve)
